After talks with Geely collapsed, Signatech is exploring every option to stay in WEC Hypercar in 2027 with a rebadged Alpine A424, says Philippe Sinault.

Key point

Philippe Sinault says Geely was never Signatech's only option to enter a rebadged Alpine A424 in WEC Hypercar in 2027.

Signatech has not given up on the WEC in 2027. After talks between Renault and Geely collapsed, team director Philippe Sinault tells Motorsport.com he is working on every option to field a rebadged Alpine A424 in Hypercar.

How the Geely deal fell apart

Renault had been in advanced negotiations with Geely since summer 2026. Philippe Sinault expected a deal shortly after the 6 Hours of Fuji in September. Talks ended abruptly in the first week of October, with the deal failing in the final hours. Alpine's exit from Hypercar had already been announced in February 2026.

According to Sinault, Geely was never Signatech's only option. The sources do not detail the other routes.

The deadlines that matter

  • End of November: WEC entry deadline, with 23 November cited as the key date
  • 2027: the priority target, with a rebadged Alpine A424
  • 2028: aimed-for return to Hypercar if 2027 proves impossible
  • LMP2: a return to that class remains possible, but Hypercar is Sinault's priority

Why it matters for the grid

The A424 is the car Alpine ran in Hypercar. If Signatech finds no solution before entries close, the 2027 grid would lose the Alpine A424 in Hypercar.

An unrelated item: Belgian group Dumarey has bought Renault's engine plant at Viry-Châtillon. The article says this does not affect Signatech.

Timeline

  • February 2026: Alpine announces its exit from Hypercar
  • Summer 2026: Renault begins advanced negotiations with Geely
  • September: Sinault hopes for a deal shortly after the 6 Hours of Fuji
  • First week of October: talks end, the deal fails in the final hours
  • 23 November: key date for filing entries

Sinault stresses one point: Hypercar remains the priority, and a return to LMP2 would only be a fallback.

We will follow any official announcement from Signatech, Alpine or the WEC before the entry deadline.
