On 630 points to Ferrari's 504, Mercedes can win the F1 constructors' championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos. The scenarios, explained.

Key point

Mercedes will be constructors' champion in Brazil if it outscores Ferrari by three points or more; a four-point swing secures it on points alone, with no tie-break needed.

The Brazilian Grand Prix, on Sunday 8 November at Interlagos, could hand Mercedes the F1 constructors' title. The team has 630 points to Ferrari's 504, a lead of 126 points with four races left. Here are the scenarios, according to RacingNews365 and GrandPrix.com.

The maths: three points more than Ferrari

To be crowned in São Paulo, Mercedes simply needs to outscore Ferrari by at least three points. The gap would then be 129 points, a total Ferrari could no longer match even by winning the last three races, GrandPrix.com says. And if the gap stayed at exactly 126 points, Mercedes would still take the title, because the first tie-break is the number of wins: 12 for Mercedes, two for Ferrari.

With a four-point advantage over Ferrari, the title would be decided on points alone, without needing the tie-break.

If Ferrari fail to score

Should Ferrari leave without a point, it would be enough for Kimi Antonelli or George Russell to finish at least eighth, which earns four points.

What Ferrari need to stay alive

To keep the fight going until Las Vegas, Ferrari must outscore Mercedes by at least four points at Interlagos. If Mercedes fail to score, an eighth place for Ferrari would keep the hope alive.

The remaining calendar

Four rounds remain:

  • Brazil: 8 November;
  • Las Vegas: 22 November;
  • Qatar: 29 November;
  • Abu Dhabi: 6 December.

Key takeaways

  • 630 points for Mercedes, 504 for Ferrari.
  • Three points more than Ferrari in Brazil is enough for Mercedes.
  • On level points, Mercedes win thanks to 12 victories to two.
