WEC and IMSA: Cadillac skips a new evo joker for 2027
Cadillac will not add a major evolution to its V-Series.R in 2027, in WEC or IMSA, says Jota: three of its five evo jokers have already been used.
Key point
Cadillac will not evolve the V-Series.R with an evo joker in 2027: three of five jokers are spent and two remain in reserve.
Cadillac will not use another "evo joker" on its LMDh V-Series.R in 2027, in either the World Endurance Championship (WEC) or IMSA. The news comes from Jota Sport, the American brand's factory partner, and was published on 9 October 2026.
Why no major evolution
Jota team principal Sam Hignett explains that the 2026 revision was already a big step forward: the team used its joker going into this season. He announces only minor safety and reliability updates, nothing major, while the 2026 package keeps being optimised, with gains expected over the winter.
The sources consulted do not detail what those minor updates contain, or when they will be homologated. Not spending a joker does keep two evolutions in reserve for the rest of the car's life, with no timing announced for using them.
The evo joker count
Under the LMDh rules, each manufacturer has five evo jokers over the life of its car. For Cadillac:
- three jokers used: electronics in early 2025, then aerodynamics and brakes for 2026;
- two jokers left;
- two extra tokens for 2028 and 2029, granted to manufacturers.
The car debuted in 2023. The 2026 revision moved the front-mounted wing to the rear, where it is now adjustable, removed several aerodynamic appendages and replaced Carbone Industrie brakes with Brembo to fix a left-to-right temperature imbalance.
An already solid 2026 season
Cadillac clinched the IMSA GTP manufacturers' title, its first since the current rules began. Jack Aitken won the drivers' title with Action Express Racing. In the WEC, Jota has one pole and two podiums after six rounds.
A busier field in 2027
Competition is growing: Ford and McLaren join Hypercar in 2027, while Ferrari and Peugeot are preparing major upgrades. Hignett says Cadillac is not concerned and is focused on its own development.
For fans, the choice means a V-Series.R close to its 2026 form next year, against rivals in full development. The editorial team will follow the first answers on track from this winter.
