The 54th Coniston Powerboat Record Week opened with about ten boats, one of the smallest fields in its history, and a diesel Amaroq 40 outboard record bid.
Key point
The 54th Coniston Powerboat Record Week, from 2 to 6 November 2026, opened with about ten boats; the diesel Amaroq 40 outboard will attempt a record on the measured kilometre.
The 54th Coniston Powerboat Record Week began on 1 November 2026 on Coniston Water in Cumbria, with about ten boats on site. According to Powerboat News, it is one of the smallest turnouts in the event's history. No entry list had been published, but several crews are known, including a new diesel outboard.
A format without races
Nobody battles on a circuit at Coniston: competitors book individual runs on a measured kilometre, timed with the Crocker system. A record only falls if it is beaten by at least 0.3%. The event is run by the Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club under British Power Boat Association and Circuit Powerboat Association rules. It is on the UIM calendar, so overseas crews can enter.
The week runs from Monday 2 to Friday 6 November, with runs from 08:00 Monday to Thursday. Prize giving is planned for Friday at 21:00. Entries are taken in person until 16:00 on Thursday, and spectators get in free of charge.
The first entries
- Cezary Strumnik (Poland): the OSY400-class hydroplane Mosquito Gold, powered by a Yamato engine;
- Peter Little (Birmingham): Clubman 2000, with an Allison hull and a 200hp Mercury XR2;
- Benjamin and Sophie Holehouse: the Phantom 19 The Bandit, Mercury 200XS, in the 300hp Sports Boat category;
- Team Endeavour Racing UK: the Amaroq 40, a British diesel two-stroke outboard, seeking a diesel record.
Amaroq 40: a first diesel outboard on the kilometre
The Amaroq 40 is a 697cc three-cylinder two-stroke diesel producing 40hp at 5,500rpm, built by Amaroq Ltd in West Sussex. It will be fitted to an Aquarius ProCat inflatable catamaran, with Aaron Hilton and Lisa Johnston, two British Army veterans. Team Endeavour Racing UK, which puts injured and sick service personnel and veterans into powerboat racing, first wants to establish the configuration's eligibility before pursuing a recognised record, subject to technical approval.
Diesel is not new at Coniston: Cox Marine's 300hp CXO300 set records there at 62.84 mph in 2022 and 67.95 mph in 2023, driven by Adam Brown.
