Cadillac #38 wins the 6 Hours of Monza, the 2026 WEC finale. The #8 Toyota of Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa is Hypercar champion despite finishing 11th.

Key point

The #8 Toyota is Hypercar champion after finishing 11th at Monza, where the #38 Cadillac won by 5.6 s; Jonny Edgar is LMGT3 champion.

The #38 Cadillac won the 6 Hours of Monza, the 2026 WEC finale, in a race that featured four Safety Car periods. The Hypercar drivers' title nevertheless goes to the #8 Toyota of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryō Hirakawa, who finished 11th, outside the points.

Cadillac wins, Alpine second

The Jota team's #38, driven by Jack Aitken, Sébastien Bourdais and Earl Bamber, won by 5.6 s. Jules Gounon and Victor Martins took second in the #36 Alpine A424. At the start, Juncadella (Genesis #17) touched pole-sitter Molina's #50 Ferrari and was given a five-second penalty, served under a Virtual Safety Car; Aitken then passed him for the lead.

Behind, the #51 Ferrari (Giovinazzi, Pier Guidi, Calado) took fourth, ahead of a Peugeot 9X8, the marque's best result of the season. The #15 BMW (sixth) and #20 BMW (ninth) completed the top of the order; the #20 lost ground with an electrical problem in the penultimate hour.

Toyota #8 champion without scoring

The #8 only needed not to be beaten by its sister car: the #7 Toyota (de Vries, Conway, Kobayashi) had to finish at least second to come back, and neither Toyota scored points at Monza. Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa thus take their third Hypercar title as a trio, after 2022 and 2023. Toyota had already clinched the manufacturers' title with its win at Barcelona.

A fragmented race

Beyond the four Safety Cars and three Full Course Yellows:

  • the #50 and #83 Ferraris were shown the black-and-orange flag for tyre pressures and received 20 s penalties each, dropping well outside the top 10 before recovering;
  • Chatin's #19 Genesis stopped on track in the third hour, ending the Korean manufacturer's podium hopes;
  • in the final two minutes, Malthe Jakobsen's #94 Peugeot touched Alex Lynn's #12 Cadillac, which hit the barrier.

LMGT3: Porsche wins, Edgar champion

In LMGT3, Manthey's Porsche 911 GT3 R #92 (Richard Lietz, Riccardo Pera, Yasser Shahin) won by 0.270 s over Eduardo Barrichello's Aston Martin, Porsche's second straight win in the class. Jonny Edgar clinched the title with third place in the #33 Corvette.

Key takeaway

Monza delivered a ragged finale: a Cadillac win, the Hypercar title for the #8 Toyota and the LMGT3 crown for Jonny Edgar. The World Endurance Championship thus closes its 2026 season.
