What changes in 2027
The confirmation of the schedule followed lengthy negotiations over the Teams Racing Charter: seven teams opted for a formula based on an equity bonus, while five preferred a higher annual payment, according to Speedcafe.
Sydney remains the opening round, but there is now a one-week gap between the Bathurst 12 Hour and that event. The New Zealand double-header is reversed: Christchurch now comes before Taupo. At Darwin, Valley Raceway will host the first night meeting in its history, in mid-season.
Phillip Island returns, Ipswich drops out
Phillip Island is back on the calendar in the Finals phase. Queensland Raceway at Ipswich leaves the schedule. Sandown now closes the Sprint Cup, and the plan to turn it into a third endurance race did not come together, so the Enduro Cup stays at two rounds. In Adelaide, the street circuit has been reworked for the Grand Final.
Tony Quinn's reaction
Tony Quinn, co-owner of Triple Eight, considers the fans the main victims of Ipswich's removal, especially those in south-east Queensland. He says he was only told the day before the official announcement and criticises the series' management, which he feels is too focused on return on investment. He also calls Sandown a disgrace and accuses Supercars of failing to invest in infrastructure. According to Speedcafe, Ipswich had drawn strong crowds since returning to the calendar two years earlier.
Key takeaway
The 2027 calendar sets the markers of the season, from the late-February opener in Sydney to the Adelaide finale in late November, with Phillip Island new in the Finals and the Repco Bathurst 1000 on 7-10 October.
