Key point
Malcolm Stewart (No. 27) rides for Monster Energy Kawasaki in 2027 alongside re-signed Garrett Marchbanks on the new KX450F-SR, after the Husqvarna factory team folded.
Malcolm Stewart will ride for Monster Energy Kawasaki in 2027. The American team confirmed on 28 October 2026 the signing of the No. 27 rider for the SMX World Championship, alongside Garrett Marchbanks. With the move, Kawasaki completes its 450 Class line-up for next season's Supercross and Pro Motocross.
Why Malcolm Stewart is changing teams
The trigger was the end of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna factory team: Stewart could not complete the final year of his contract and had to find a new team. He returns to Kawasaki, whose colours he wore as an amateur with Team Green. His family also has a long history with the brand, his older brother James Stewart having enjoyed success there.
A professional for more than a decade, Stewart won his first 450SX race in 2025 and the King of Paris SX crown later that year. In 2026 he took one SMX podium and 14 top-10 finishes.
Marchbanks extended after a rookie season
Garrett Marchbanks stays in green for a second season in the 450 Class. He was the 2026 450SX Rookie of the Year, recorded five top-5 finishes in SMX and finished sixth overall in the SMX World Championship standings. In Pro Motocross he took two fourth-place overall finishes, at Thunder Valley and Unadilla. Before Monster Energy Kawasaki he rode for Kawasaki Team Green and Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
An updated KX450F-SR
Both riders will use the 2027 KX450F-SR, which has received several significant changes. In 2026, Marchbanks rode the KX450SR. Dan Fahle, Kawasaki Racing Senior Manager, considers the line-up strong and believes both riders can run at the front of the 450 Class.
The context at Kawasaki
The signing follows the announcement that Chase Sexton will leave the team after the 2026 season. His next destination has not been announced.
