Coniston Water Record Week: Peter Little hits 100.18 mph in the 2000 Monohull, the organisers say. The speed is still subject to ratification.

Key point

Peter Little reached 100.18 mph on Coniston Water in the 2000 Monohull, 2.82 mph faster than his earlier mark of the week; ratification is pending.

On Coniston Water in the United Kingdom, Peter Little has passed the 100 mph mark: the organisers of the 54th Coniston Power Boat Record Week announced on Friday 6 November, the final day of the event, that his 2000 Monohull reached 100.18 mph. It is one of the most distinctive fixtures in powerboat speed running.

100.18 mph in the 2000 Monohull

The class is the 2000 Monohull, 1501 to 2050cc. Peter Little, from Birmingham, is entered with Team 26: an Allison hull running a 200hp Mercury XR2 outboard.

The new figure is 2.82 mph faster than his own mark from earlier in the week: 97.36 mph, already announced by the organisers up to the end of Wednesday 4 November. Like every figure from the week, it remains subject to ratification. According to the organisers, the run came after repeated attempts through the week.

A Coniston regular and former world champion

Peter Little says he had never been over 100 mph on the lake before. He has won world and European titles in Class 3 and has come out of retirement:

  • Class 3B: world champion in 1991, European champion in 1990 and 1997;
  • Class 3C: world champion in 1999, world and European champion in 2000, then European champion in 2004.

He made record attempts at Windermere before the event moved to Coniston, and the published results show runs by him going back to 2006. He says he is interested in racing the Raid Pavia-Venezia next year.

A record week with a small field

The Record Week runs from Monday 2 to Friday 6 November 2026. It is the 54th edition and the 20th on Coniston Water, the Lake District lake tied to Donald Campbell's record runs in the 1950s and 60s. It is organised by the Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club under the rules of the British Power Boat Association and the Circuit Powerboat Association, and sits on the UIM international calendar.

The field stayed small: around ten boats on site at the start, one of the smallest turnouts in the event's history. Poland's Cezary Strumnik, entered with an OSY400 hydroplane, left without making an attempt because of the weather.

Attempts on the final day began at 08:00, with a start deadline of 14:00 and prize giving at 21:00 at the Coniston Institute.
