F1: Sergio Perez extends Cadillac deal until 2029
Cadillac F1 confirms Sergio Perez will stay until 2029, announced on the eve of the Mexican Grand Prix where he starts his 300th Formula 1 race.
Key point
Cadillac keeps Sergio Perez until 2029; the announcement, made on the eve of the Mexican GP, says nothing about his 2027 team-mate.
Cadillac has confirmed that Sergio Perez will stay with the team until 2029. The announcement came on 28 October, on the eve of the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix (30 October – 1 November), the driver's home race.
What has been announced
Perez joined Cadillac at the start of the 2026 season, the American team's first year in F1. After sitting out 2025 following his replacement at Red Bull, he found a race seat again. His commitment now runs until at least 2029.
The Mexican, 36, describes a project he believed in from day one. In his view, building an F1 team from scratch takes time, hard work and patience, and he says he is fully committed for the next three years. He thanks Dan Towriss, Mark Reuss, TWG Motorsports and General Motors. For Cadillac, Dan Towriss sees the continuity needed to move the team up the grid.
A difficult first season
On track, the record is modest. Perez is 23rd in the 2026 drivers' championship, with a best result of 14th place, achieved in Barcelona and at the British and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. Cadillac has yet to score a point and sits at the bottom of the standings.
The Mexico City Grand Prix will be a milestone for him: it will be his 300th Formula 1 race.
A long-term project
Dan Towriss points out that building a competitive F1 team is a long-term journey, and that securing Perez's talent and leadership provides the commitment needed to carry on. The driver also thanks everyone in the team, at the track, in the U.S. and in the U.K., as well as the fans, and promises not to let them down.
What about Valtteri Bottas?
The announcement only concerns Perez. The situation of Valtteri Bottas, the team's other driver, is not addressed, and nothing says at this stage who will line up alongside the Mexican in 2027. The extension fuels speculation about the driver pairing, which no official source has settled.
