WorldWCR Jerez: Herrera can clinch the title on Saturday
WorldWCR finale at Jerez, 16-18 October: Maria Herrera leads Beatriz Neila by 44 points and can win the title in Saturday's Race 1 with a top-10 finish.
Key point
Maria Herrera arrives at the Jerez finale 44 points clear of Beatriz Neila and can be crowned in Saturday's Race 1 with a top-10 finish.
The WorldWCR finale, the women's circuit racing world championship, takes place from 16 to 18 October 2026 at Jerez. Maria Herrera arrives with a 44-point lead over Beatriz Neila and can be crowned in Saturday's Race 1. For the third season in a row, the title is settled in the final round.
Herrera needs a top 10
According to Road Racing World, Herrera (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha) has 226 points to Neila's 182 (Ampito Crescent Yamaha). She has won six of the season's ten races and stood on the podium in every one of them. There are 50 points left to score this weekend.
WorldSBK.com says Herrera wins the title on Saturday if she finishes in the top ten of Race 1. Road Racing World lists the possible scenarios after that race:
- she finishes in the top 10, whatever Neila does;
- she finishes between 11th and 15th and Neila does not win;
- Neila finishes third or lower, whatever Herrera does.
Neila must win and hope for a mistake
Neila, a two-time winner this season (Assen and Donington Park), is still mathematically alive. WorldSBK.com sums up her position: she needs to win and hope Herrera makes an error. At Donington Park in July she won Race 2 after contact with her rival; Herrera took 45 of the 50 possible points that weekend.
Jerez has suited Herrera, who won there in 2024 and in Race 1 last year. Neila has four podiums at the track but no win.
A fight for third
Behind them, Roberta Ponziani leads team-mate Paola Ramos by a single point for third in the standings. Ramos has two wins this season, including a maiden victory at Jerez as a wildcard. Muklada Sarapuech is 19 points behind Ponziani.
Sara Varon and Avalon Lewis are the wildcards, with Lewis needing to pass a medical check first. Jerez is also the last WorldWCR round on Yamaha machinery: CFMOTO becomes the single-bike supplier from 2027.
