Trial: George Hemingway (Beta) wins the 2026 Scott Trial in Swaledale on 28 marks, ahead of his brother Harry and Jack Peace; Jack Price finishes fourth.

Key point

On 17 October 2026, George Hemingway (Beta) won the Scott Trial on 28 marks, ahead of his brother Harry (31) and Jack Peace (35).

George Hemingway (Beta) won the 2026 Scott Trial, held on Saturday, 17 October in Swaledale, North Yorkshire. A year after missing out by two points to Jonathan Richardson, he wins on 28 points. His brother Harry is second, three points back, and Jack Peace (Sherco) completes the podium.

A one-off event in trials

The Scott is a one-day event. The course covers about 130 km and has 76 sections. The result adds two kinds of penalty: marks lost in sections and time penalties. Each minute behind the standard time, set by the fastest rider, costs one point. Riders must therefore be quick on the road sections and make few mistakes in the sections, and the winner is only known at the prize-giving, once all the sums are done.

The event dates back to 1914 and settled in Swaledale in 1950. It is now organised by the Richmond Motor Club, and profits go to charity.

2026: the win is made in the sections

George Hemingway lost just 21 marks across 76 sections, the best observation of the day, plus 7 time penalties: 28 in total. Jack Price, a four-time winner from 2021 to 2024, set the fastest time of 4 h 51 min 18 s, which fixes the standard time, so he took no time penalty. But his 36 marks lost in the sections dropped him to fourth.

  • 1. George Hemingway (Beta): 28 points (21 in sections + 7 time)
  • 2. Harry Hemingway (Beta): 31 points (22 + 9)
  • 3. Jack Peace (Sherco): 35 points (24 + 11)
  • 5. Richard Sadler (Vertigo): 51 points (45 + 6)

Billy Green (Scorpa) and Alfie Lampkin (Vertigo) complete the top 7. Two brothers in the first two places, both on Beta: the Hemingway family dominated this edition.

A demanding day

Of 183 starters, 64 retired and 22 finished outside the time limit; only 95 riders are classified within the time. Alice Minta won the MHT trophy. The results published by the club are provisional, based on the results posted on the day of the event.
