Key point

On 17 and 18 October 2026, MOJO won all three Supercat Extreme races at Lake Macquarie, the opening round of the Australian offshore championship.

The 2026/27 offshore powerboat season opened in the southern hemisphere over the weekend of 17 and 18 October 2026. At Lake Macquarie, in New South Wales, the MOJO crew won all three Supercat Extreme races in round 1 of the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships.

Lake Macquarie: MOJO sweeps the weekend

The round was part of the Lake Mac Action Fest. It featured six 30-minute races spread over two days, with each of the four classes racing three times: Supercat Extreme, Supercat Outboard, SuperSport 65 and SuperSport 85. Championship points had not been published at the time of writing.

In Supercat Extreme, Mojo Racing (Stuart Eustice and Todd Kelly) took three wins out of three, after losing the 2025/26 title to Hornet Racing by two points. Club Marine Venturi (Matt Kelly and Antony de Fina), a 36-foot catamaran racing for the first time with Club Marine as title sponsor, finished second (races 1 and 3) and fourth (race 2). Hornet 750 (Michael Kelly and Jason Kelly), from the reigning champions, was third in races 1 and 2.

  • Supercat Outboard: Kess Racing (Steve Lancaster and Scott Kelly) won races 2 and 3; reigning champion The Sting won race 1 but failed to finish the last one; Sugar Daddy Racing was second three times.
  • SuperSport 85: TR Racing won all three races, ahead of The Colonel.
  • SuperSport 65: Cardiac Arrest won races 1 and 2, before Watersports Marine took the last one. It was the biggest class, with eleven boats.

The rest of the Australian calendar: Wyndham Harbour (20 and 21 February 2027), Geelong (13 and 14 March), North Haven (15 and 16 May) and Redcliffe (26 and 27 June).

New Zealand: opening round at Gulf Harbour

Across the Tasman Sea, the NZOPA championship began on Saturday 17 October at Gulf Harbour, near Auckland, in lumpy water with swells approaching one metre. Of the 23 boats that started, 16 finished race 1 and 13 finished race 2.

Four boats won both of their races: Gen 2 (Mike Smith) in 200HP, Cougar (Grant Smith) in Sports 70mph, Hidromek (Shan Martin) in Sports 80mph and Subway Mangawhai (Kerry Smyth) in the Family Class. The defending champions struggled: Rainbow Haulage in Supercat Lite failed to finish race 2, and Fury II, the Sports 80mph champion, did not finish either race.

The next New Zealand round is Marsden Cove, on 14 November 2026.
