MXGP 2027 calendar: Águeda confirmed for the MXGP of Portugal on 22-23 May, and the MXGP of Spain becomes the MXGP of Extremadura at Mérida on 18 April.

Key point

The 2027 motocross world championship confirms Águeda for the MXGP of Portugal (22-23 May) and renames the MXGP of Spain as the MXGP of Extremadura, at Mérida on 18 April.

Infront Moto Racing and the FIM announced two changes on 15 October to the 2027 calendar of the FIM Motocross World Championship: Águeda is confirmed for the MXGP of Portugal on 22 and 23 May 2027, and Spain's second round becomes the MXGP of Extremadura, on 18 April at Mérida.

Águeda confirmed for the MXGP of Portugal

The Águeda circuit sits in the Aveiro district, about 75 km south of Porto. It hosted its first Grand Prix in 1985, won in the 125cc class by Dave Strijbos. The 2027 edition will be its 28th world championship event.

The Portuguese track has a rich list of winners:

  • Jeffrey Herlings holds the record there with six wins;
  • Antonio Cairoli has five;
  • Stefan Everts has four.

More recently, Pauls Jonass took his first MXGP overall win there in 2024, and Lucas Coenen won both motos and the overall in 2025.

The MXGP of Spain becomes the MXGP of Extremadura

Spain's second Grand Prix of the season, at Mérida on 18 April, gets a new name: it is now the MXGP of Extremadura, a title that highlights this region in the west of Spain. Spain hosts two rounds in 2027; the season opens in Andalucía on 28 February.
