MotoGP: Toprak Razgatlioglu, hurt in Mandalika, will have shoulder surgery in Milan and miss Phillip Island and the rest of 2026; Augusto Fernandez steps in.

Key point

Pramac Yamaha confirmed that Toprak Razgatlioglu, operated on 26 October in Milan, will not race again in 2026; Augusto Fernandez replaces him.

Toprak Razgatlioglu will not race again in MotoGP this season. Pramac Yamaha announced on 20 October 2026 that the Turkish rider, a triple WorldSBK champion, will have shoulder surgery on Monday 26 October in Milan. He will miss the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island and the remaining rounds of the 2026 championship.

An injury worse than first thought

It started with a violent highside at Turn 13 in Mandalika, during free practice for the Indonesian Grand Prix, where Razgatlioglu dislocated his shoulder. Passed fit by the MotoGP medical team, he returned in qualifying, where he took 19th on the grid, and finished the Sprint in the same position. On Sunday he retired after eight laps, saying he had no power left in his shoulder, especially under braking.

Checks after his return showed the injury was worse than first believed. In Pramac Yamaha's statement the surgery was agreed with the rider, who will then focus on rehabilitation. Razgatlioglu says he is extremely disappointed to miss Phillip Island, a track he enjoys, and wishes team-mate Jack Miller well at what will be the final MotoGP event at the circuit.

Augusto Fernandez steps in

Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez will take the M1 for the five remaining rounds, according to Crash.net. Pramac Yamaha team director Gino Borsoi says he will deputise until Toprak is ready to come back, stressing that Fernandez knows the bike well. The Race adds that Fernandez will also have to juggle finishing touches on Yamaha's future 850cc machine.

What next for 2027?

Razgatlioglu has had a tough rookie season on the Yamaha V4. His best result is 11th at Balaton Park. If he is not fit for the Valencia test on 1 December, his next chance to ride the new 850cc M1 on Pirelli tyres will be at Sepang in January, according to Crash.net.

  • Surgery scheduled for 26 October in Milan; out of Phillip Island and the rest of 2026.
  • Augusto Fernandez replaces him at Pramac Yamaha.
  • Next possible date: the Valencia test on 1 December, otherwise Sepang in January.
