Last MotoGP at Phillip Island, 23-25 October: Martín leads Márquez by two points and Bezzecchi is 46 back. The 2026 title scenarios explained.

Key point

At Phillip Island, from 23 to 25 October, Jorge Martín (355 points) leads Marc Márquez (353) by two points, with 37 points up for grabs at MotoGP's last visit to the island.

The MotoGP Australian Grand Prix takes place from 23 to 25 October 2026 at Phillip Island, for the last time on the island before the move to Adelaide in 2027. The title is down to Jorge Martín (Aprilia), 355 points, and Marc Márquez (Ducati), 353 points: only two points apart, with five rounds to go according to MotoGP.com.

A two-point duel, a third man 46 back

Martín retook the lead at Mandalika by finishing third, while Márquez, sixth, left with the same two-point deficit he arrived with. Marco Bezzecchi, the Indonesian GP winner, is third on 309 points, 46 fewer than Martín. He is 50 points clear of Ai Ogura.

Martín has won only one race this season, but he has stood on the podium in each of the last three Grands Prix. Márquez has six Sunday podiums, and every one is a win.

The scenarios: 37 points at stake

According to Grande Prémio, the weekend offers a maximum of 37 points: 12 for the sprint and 25 for the race. To take the lead without a tie-break, Márquez must outscore Martín by at least three points over the weekend.

  • Márquez wins both: he retakes the lead unless Martín scores at least 35 points.
  • Race win only: Márquez goes ahead if Martín scores no more than 22.
  • Sprint win only: Márquez goes ahead if Martín scores no more than 9.

The Aprilia factor

Aprilia locked out the top four in Indonesia, a first in MotoGP. Bezzecchi, Raúl Fernández and Ogura could therefore slot in between the two title contenders. Grande Prémio says Aprilia is considering team orders to help Martín, with nothing confirmed.

Behind the contenders

Ogura is fourth, one point ahead of Pedro Acosta, and several riders are still fighting for fourth. Two stand-ins are expected: Iker Lecuona for Fermín Aldeguer, injured in the hand at Lombok, and Augusto Fernández for Toprak Razgatlioglu, who needs surgery and will miss the rest of the season at Prima Pramac Yamaha.

A farewell to the island

Phillip Island has hosted racing since 1989 and the Australian Grand Prix since 1997. Martín and Márquez fought an epic battle here in 2024, won by Márquez. Jack Miller will contest his final home Grand Prix. After Australia, four rounds remain: Malaysia, Qatar, Portugal and Valencia.
