Máximo Quiles is the 2026 Moto3 world champion. The Aspar rider won the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika on 11 October and clinched his first world title on the spot, having missed a first chance at Motegi.
A controlled win at Mandalika
Quiles won with authority, finishing 2.9 seconds clear of David Almansa (Red Bull KTM Ajo). Brian Uriarte, also with Red Bull KTM Ajo, completed the podium: he started from pole position, had a difficult opening before recovering. Matteo Bertelle was fourth, Rico Salmela fifth and local rider Veda Pratama sixth.
A title for the record books
It was Quiles's 10th win of the season, matching Joan Mir (2017) and Marc Márquez (2010); the class record of 14 wins belongs to David Alonso. According to Motorsport Week, Quiles is also the first rider to take the Moto3 title with five rounds still to go. GP Inside describes him as Marc Márquez's protégé.
The fight for second place
Behind the new champion, the battle for second in the standings was decided on track. Almansa scored valuable points with a second place. Álvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo), also in the fight, did not finish after contact with Adrián Fernández at turn 10: he drops to fourth in the championship, behind teammate Uriarte, who takes third.
Other incidents
Casey O'Gorman fell at turns 4 and 5 on lap 3, Ryota Ogiwara crashed after a highside and Ruche Moodley fell four laps from the finish. The sources consulted do not give the Moto3 points totals here.
