Barcelona, a first for IndyCar
The Barcelona race is IndyCar's first European round since Assen in the Netherlands in 2007, and its first outside North America since São Paulo in Brazil in 2013. It will be held on a Sunday between Formula 1's Austrian and Belgian Grands Prix, with an off week on either side for travel. The deal is multi-year; its exact length has not been given.
Catalan driver Alex Palou, a five-time IndyCar champion, gets a home race as a result. Penske Entertainment chief executive Mark Miles calls it a monumental day for the sport, while the circuit's organiser wants it to become a benchmark event on the international calendar.
What drops out
Nashville Superspeedway, which hosted IndyCar for the past three seasons, leaves the calendar. The Freedom 250 race in Washington was a one-off and does not return, so there will be no race in the US capital in 2027.
Key takeaway
With 17 races, a Milwaukee double-header and a Spanish summer trip, the 2027 IndyCar calendar will run from 7 March to 5 September. The dates are those announced by the series on 23 October 2026.
