The F1H2O world championship adds Kazakhstan at Kapchagay in August 2027 and keeps Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan: where Central Asia stands.

Key point

F1H2O will race in Kazakhstan for the first time, at Kapchagay in August 2027, and return to Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan after the first edition in 2026.

The UIM F1H2O World Championship is settling into Central Asia. After a first Grand Prix of Kyrgyzstan held on 2 August 2026 on Lake Issyk-Kul, promoter H2O Racing announced on 10 September a first round in Kazakhstan, planned for August 2027 at Kapchagay. Here is what is known about both events.

Kazakhstan: Kapchagay in August 2027

The event will be organised with IPROMEDIA, the local organiser of the Jeddah Grand Prix, which operates under iHolding, and with the Almaty Region government. Kazakh media place the racing on the Kapchagay reservoir, near the city of Konaev, and talk of hosting the championship for the next five years.

According to the same media, citing the Almaty Region authorities and an H2O Racing representative, the project also includes:

  • a sport boat factory in the region;
  • a pilot training academy;
  • a Kazakh national team, which H2O Racing expects to form within 12 months;
  • development of the federation in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

These are announced intentions, not accomplished facts. The detailed 2027 season calendar has not been published yet.

Kyrgyzstan: a confirmed return to Issyk-Kul

The Grand Prix of Kyrgyzstan, run on Sunday 2 August 2026, was the first in the championship's history in the country. Shaun Torrente, the reigning world champion, led from the start after narrowly taking the holeshot. Erik Stark finished second, 4.730 s behind, and Marit Stromoy third after a penalty for Alec Weckström for failing to hold his lane at the restart. Jonas Andersson had taken pole.

On race day, a memorandum of understanding was signed by Raimondo di San Germano, CEO of H2O Racing, and Aibek Abylkasymov, president of the Kyrgyz Powerboating Federation. It confirms the championship's return to Lake Issyk-Kul in 2027, at the same time of year. No precise date is given.

Why it matters

With two Central Asian countries in two seasons, F1H2O is widening its map beyond its usual strongholds. Two things to remember: Kapchagay in August 2027 is new, and Lake Issyk-Kul is renewed. The exact dates for both remain to be confirmed by the promoter.
