Ferrari name Dino Beganovic, 22, as their F1 reserve driver for 2027 alongside Antonio Giovinazzi. His career, his role and the Ferrari Driver Academy plans.

Key point

Ferrari make Dino Beganovic, 22, their F1 reserve driver for 2027: a simulator and development role, without a race seat.

Ferrari announced on 16 October that Dino Beganovic, 22, will become the Scuderia's F1 reserve driver in 2027. The Swede, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy for seven years, leaves Formula 2 at the end of the season and joins Antonio Giovinazzi on the reserve roster. It brings him closer to the heart of the team, but not to a race seat.

A reserve role, not a race seat

According to Crash.net, Beganovic will take on heavy simulator duties, support development during Grand Prix weekends and be ready to step into the SF-27 if either of the two race drivers cannot compete. He already knows the car: F1i notes that he took part in four first free practice sessions for Ferrari across 2025 and 2026.

The appointment comes after Rafael Camara was confirmed at Haas for 2027. Both drivers come from the same academy, but their paths now diverge: Camara races in F1, Beganovic stays behind the scenes at the Scuderia.

Dino Beganovic's career

The Swedish-Bosnian driver started in karting, where he won the Italian and Swedish championships. What followed:

  • 2020: third in the Italian F4 championship in his rookie season;
  • 2022: Formula Regional Europe title at his second attempt;
  • 2023 and 2024: sixth in the F3 standings both years;
  • 2025: seventh in F2;
  • 2026: second F2 season with DAMS, fifth in the championship, with wins at Madring and Baku.

Crash.net counts three F2 victories to his name. That was not enough to aim for a race seat: Haas chose Camara, and the reserve post becomes Beganovic's way into Ferrari's F1 programme.

What the Ferrari Driver Academy plans for 2027

The same day, the Ferrari Driver Academy published its 2027 programmes for eight young drivers, from karting to F2. Three newcomers join the pool: Turkey's Alp Aksoy, who will contest the European Formula Regional championship, Colombia's Salim Hanna, who steps up to F3, and Daniel Miron, who moves up to the OK category in karting.

Finland's Tuukka Taponen moves up to F2 with ART Grand Prix, and Denmark's Alba Larsen continues in F1 Academy.
