European Truck Racing Championship ETRC: four races per meeting, Super Pole, reverse grids, a 160 km/h limit and four titles. A quick guide to the 2026 format.

Key point

Every ETRC meeting has four races, two qualifying sessions and a Super Pole; truck top speed is limited to 160 km/h.

The European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) closed its 2026 season at Jarama on 4 October. With the 2027 calendar not yet known, here is how a truck racing weekend works, from qualifying to the four titles at stake.

One weekend, four races

Every ETRC meeting features four races, broadcast live worldwide according to the FIA. The rules provide for two qualifying sessions per round and a Super Pole system.

Races 2 and 4 are run with a reverse grid: the trucks that finished first to eighth in the previous race start in reverse order. It shuffles the field and encourages overtaking.

A 160 km/h limit

The trucks' top speed is limited by the regulations to 160 km/h. Racing therefore depends less on outright speed than on traffic management, braking and starts.

This season every competitor ran on the new 2026 Goodyear tyre, made with 60% sustainable materials.

Seven meetings, four titles

In 2026 the FIA took direct operational control of the championship: sporting regulations, technical standards, media and sustainability. The 2026 calendar had seven meetings:

  • Misano (Italy), 30-31 May
  • Slovakia Ring, 6-7 June
  • Nürburgring (Germany), 10-12 July
  • Most (Czech Republic), 28-30 August
  • Zolder (Belgium), 11-13 September
  • Le Mans (France), 25-27 September
  • Jarama (Spain), 3-4 October

Four classifications are awarded: drivers, teams, Chrome and Young Drivers. The Young Drivers winner is invited to the FIA Awards gala.

What the 2026 season delivered

Overall, Norbert Kiss finishes with 383 points, ahead of Jochen Hahn and Sascha Lenz, both on 244 points. In Chrome, John Newell wins with 315 points ahead of Mark Taylor (297) and Bradley Smith (216). Steffi Halm is, with Kiss, the only driver to have won more than one race outright this year. Lukas Hahn also won the Goodyear Wingfoot Award, voted by fans on Instagram. The championship returns in 2027; details will follow on the official website.
