Key point
The 18th Africa Eco Race runs from 24 January to 6 February 2027, from Tangier to Lac Rose, in 12 stages through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal.
The 18th edition of the Africa Eco Race will run from 24 January to 6 February 2027. This rally-raid links Tangier, in Morocco, to Lac Rose, in Senegal, via Mauritania. The organisers unveiled the route map on 11 September 2026 and set out the programme for the start in Tangier.
The route at a glance
The rally comprises 12 stages through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal. The organisers describe three settings: varied terrain in Morocco, desert and dunes in Mauritania, then baobab savannah in Senegal. A final special called "La Plage" comes before the finish at Lac Rose, but it does not count towards the classification. The categories named by the organisers are Course Moderne, Historic and Raid.
The detailed route is not yet known. Reconnaissance teams began work in October 2026, with new tracks and new stages, and the detailed route is due to be revealed once reconnaissance is complete, at the end of November.
The schedule in Tangier
Tangier hosts the rally caravan for the second year running. These are the dates announced:
- 21 to 23 January 2027: administrative and technical checks in Tangier;
- 24 January 2027: prologue on the municipal beach, which sets the starting order for the first stage, followed by the official start;
- 25 January 2027: first stage;
- 30 January 2027: rest day in Dakhla;
- 6 February 2027: finish at Lac Rose, in Senegal.
Why this start matters
At the previous edition, extreme weather prevented the prologue and official start from taking place as planned. The organisers and city authorities want this year's start to match the symbolic importance of the event.
What is still to come
Detailed key dates (registration opening, deadlines) are due to be announced later on the official website, and the first pricing period ended on 15 September 2026. Entry lists and full prices are not detailed in the sources consulted. The editorial team will follow the announcement of the detailed route.
